Medical Expenses Incurred Outside Japan

You may be able to seek reimbursement for expenses in regard to medical treatment you received while traveling abroad or temporarily returning to your home country. Whether you can claim for reimbursement of medical expenses outside Japan is contingent on the reason why medical treatment was necessary in the first place (e.g. for emergency medical treatment). Keep in mind that what type of medical treatment will be covered by your health insurance has limits.

To submit a reimbursement claim for medical expenses incurred outside Japan, please contact your municipal office or company depending on what type of health insurance coverage you have. When the purpose of traveling abroad is soley to receive medical treatment, this reimbursement system will not be applicable.
