Medical Expenses Incurred Outside Japan(海外療養費)

You may be able to claim reimbursement for expenses related to medical treatment 
received while traveling abroad or temporarily staying in your home country. 
Whether you can claim reimbursement for medical expenses incurred outside Japan 
is determined on a case-by-case basis (e.g., emergency medical treatment may be 
accepted). To submit a claim for reimbursement, please contact the city hall or your 
employer, depending on the type of health insurance coverage you have. Please 
note that if the purpose of traveling abroad is solely to receive medical treatment, 
this reimbursement system will not apply under any circumstances.
