About Tax Payment
All residents of Hikone, including foreigners who works, makes earnings, owns house/car/property assets, etc., have to pay taxes.
In addition, those enrolled in the national health insurance system, long-term care insurance system and/or health insurance system for the elderly must pay their premiums, regardless of nationality
If You Fail To Pay Your Taxes And Insurance Premiums By Their Due Dates
If you fail to pay taxes and insurance premiums by their due dates, you will be charged for late fees (a penalty for missing the tax payment) as well as handling fees (the cost of notification process and notification letter for missing the deadline).
If you leave your overdue tax and insurance bills unpaid, the city resorts to legally seize your assets and income to satisfy a debt.
If you have overdue tax payments, regardless of the amount, you will most likely face difficulties renewing your residency status.
If you do not pay your overdue health insurance premiums for a certain period of time, you may have to bear all medical expenses out of your pocket.
Make sure to notify the Credit Management Division of the Hikone City Hall if you have difficulties paying your taxes, insurance premiums, etc. on time.
