What’s the Residence Card?

A residence card is issued at a Japanese international airport or immigration office to foreigners who have the legal status of residing in Japan for more than 3 months under the Immigration Control Act. A residence card is a form of identification for foreign nationals living in Japan. All foreign residents, particularly 16 and older, are required to carry their residence cards all the time. To complete administrative procedures at a government office across Japan, the residence card is essential. If you change your job, get married or divorced, and so on, please notify the Immigration Services Agency of Japan as soon as possible.

You can complete the visa extension process and other procedures related to your status of residence at a regional immigration bureau office. Shiga Prefecture has the one regional immigration bureau office in Otsu City.
