Changes to Evacuation Information Issued by the City in the Event of Natural Disasters

“Evacuate Immediately When An Evacuation Order Is Issued! No More Evacuation Advisories!”

With regard to evacuation information issued by the city and the Japanese Meteorological Agency (JMA) in the event of natural disasters, such as a typhoon, regional downpour, there are different warning levels on a scale of level 1 to level 5, and depending on the warning level, what action residents are required to take differs.

Please note that this evacuation information system was updated on May 20, 2021 as follows in accordance with some amendments recently made to the Japan’s evacuation levels and protocols.

Level Three is now issued to call for evacuations for the elderly, etc. When a Level Three warning is issued, elderly people and those with physical disabilities are required to start their evacuations.

Level Four is now issued as a mandatory evacuation order. In the case of Level Four, all people must immediately evacuate from high-risk areas.

Level Five is issued when the city confirms the occurrence of a disaster or a pending disaster in order to urge people to protect their lives. By the time this Level Five alert is issued, your life is already at risk, and it is difficult to evacuate safely. With that said, please keep in mind that Level Five is not always issued. Therefore, at the time of receiving a Level Four warning, all people must start to evacuate, instead of waiting for Level Five to do so.
